Auto socks on XC40

We got 2024 Volvo XC40 with 19" Michelin tires, planning to turn it into our winter adventure ride! Read somewhere about auto socks for snow and ice, but I've read they only hold up for a few trips. Anyone has tried to use of these? How was your experience?

I always carry AutoSocks for all four tires just to be safe. I'm in Denver and head into the mountains a lot during winter, but honestly, in over 4 years, ive never had to use them. The stock Continentals did just fine. I'm on Hankook Ions now, so im a little unsure,, guess we'll see how they do once the snow hits.

So, my neighbor tried AutoSocks on his Forester to get to the ski resort fast. He said they gripped well, but they wore out really fast, especially on bare roads. He thinks they're okay for emergencies, but don't count on them instead of real winter tires if you ski a lot.

Auto socks are basically the overpriced band-aid of winter traction, they are fine in a pinch, but nowhere near as effective or durable as real winter tires or chains. They're more marketing than mountain-ready gear, honestly

You sir, deserve a case of beer. For ages chains have been the best option for winter performance, so it would be weird for some piece of fabric which is cheaper to be better, right? Get a set of chains and spare yourself the trouble and headache. If you haven't done so, learn to install them and you'll have a much better experience and not worry about traction.
