XC40 Recharge surprised by where mine was built

I recently picked up a used 2022 XC40 Recharge Pure Electric here in Canada. While going through the VIN and service history, I discovered it was assembled in Ghent, Belgium. This sparked my curiosity, just how global is this car?

I noticed that some parts, like the headlight modules, are labeled "Made in Slovakia," and even the wiring harness has tags from Turkey. I'd always thought that most parts came from China since Volvo is owned by Geely, but now I'm starting to question that assumption.

Has anyone else checked where their XC40 was built and where the parts come from? I'd really like to share insights with other owners.

Most people assume Geely ownership means "Made in China," but your XC40 Recharge is probably more European than you think. Global sourcing's just standard now, your Belgian-built Volvo likely has more in common with German EVs than Chinese ones. Branding doesn't always reflect the real manufacturing story

I think Volvo sources parts from all over even though Geely's the parent company. Mine was also built in Ghent and I have spotted components marked from Hungary and Spain.

Awesome! Volvos really are a global mix. Even with Geely owning them, the Recharge models for North America are mostly built in Belgium, and yeah, parts from places like Slovakia and Turkey are totally normal . Spot anything else unexpected on yours?
