Carplay died after I messed with my new volvo XC40's WiFi! Help!

Just picked up a 2023 Volvo XC40 T5, super stoked on it! I was poking around the infotainment system, trying to download some apps by hooking my Volvo up to my phone's hotspot. Everything seemed fine.

But now, after all that, I plug my iPhone into the USB port, and BAM, CarPlay is totally dead, and the USB port isn't even charging my phone anymore. What the heck did I do? Please tell me there's a simple fix for this! Any ideas?

Hey, congrats on the new XC40! Sorry to hear you're having issues with CarPlay and the USB port after using your phone's hotspot.

First, be sure you're using the right USB port (the one with the white outline) and a certified Apple cable. Try restarting the car's system by holding the home button for 20 seconds. Also, see if your phone and car have any software updates. If it still doesn't work, forget the car in your iPhone's CarPlay settings and reconnect. Did the USB port work before you used the hotspot?

First thing I'd try is a full reboot, turn the car off completely, lock it, walk away for a few minutes. give it time to go into sleep mode), then come back and try again or maybe try a different USB cable

I'd also try a soft reset of the infotainment system first, it's a quick, non-disruptive way to fix a software bug without having to do a full power cycle on the entire car.
If that doesn't work then that's when I'd do a full reboot like @cicadaspit suggested.
But before all these, have you tried another known good USB cable?
I mean maybe a frayed cable is the problem?

It sounds like something got a little scrambled in the system when you were messing with the hotspot.. I'd also do a soft reset first. But if that doesn't fix it, the next thing I'd check would be my phone and the connection itself.

Go to the CarPlay on your iPhone, see that your Volvo is listed, then choose "Forget This Car." Then, unplug the phone and restart it. Once it's back on, plug it back into the car and you'll go through the initial setup for CarPlay again. This often clears up any corrupted connection data that might be causing the issue.

What @V_Kiel11 also suggested about trying a different USB cable might work. I've experienced using a cable that can charge a phone but couldn't handle the data transfer for CarPlay. Maybe get another official Apple cable just to be safe?
